The Portrait of a Nevada Learner calls for a student-centered learning environment, where the focus of instruction is shifted from the teacher to the student. Partnering with digital content and tools is the first step to creating a high-quality blended learning environment. We'll discuss lesson planning that includes standards-based instruction, peer-to-peer interaction, and plenty of flexible teacher time for relationship building (e.g. teaching while walking around). We'll examine how to develop lessons that empower and connect students, where they can thrive and make an impact.

Objectives:

  • Evaluate how guided instruction and digital learning experiences can be used in designing student-centered learning environments.
  • Network with others to better understand how the Portrait of a Nevada Learner can be embedded into everyday instructional practices, given the right structures and supports.
  • Leave with numerous ideas on how to design instructional activities that encourage self-management and student ownership while promoting SEL skills and developing habits that encourage students to take control of their learning.
